Joanne McCallum
B.A., M.E.Des.(Arch.), OAA, FRAIC, LEED AP
DIRECTOR
After graduating from the University of Calgary in 1983 with a Masters Degree in Environmental Design in Architecture, Joanne worked for several years in Alberta and Ontario before establishing Joanne McCallum Architect in 1992. The success of the firm resulted from a clear commitment to design excellence, client-driven service, and the integration of sustainable design principles into the design and construction process. In 1996, the firm evolved into the partnership of McCallum Sather Architects Inc. and has continued a reputation for high quality and innovative projects.
Joanne brings a fresh and innovative interdisciplinary approach to the design process, resulting in the design and construction of facilities that are highly energy efficient and embody sustainable design concepts that represent a substantial reduction in construction and operational environmental impacts. As a recognized leader in environmental design, Joanne has lectured throughout Canada on the subject of sustainability and energy-efficiency, conducted workshops, seminars, publications and assumed the role of green facilitator for many professional organizations.
She leads many of the firm's large institutional projects, including the Hamilton Health Sciences Rehabilitation and Acquired Brain Injury Hospital and the David Bradley Cardiac, Vascular, and Stroke Research Institute. She was also the Partner in Charge of the McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences Library, which recently was awarded both an Award of Excellence and the People's Choice Award for the 2007 Hamilton Urban Design and Architecture Awards as well as a 2010 Ontario Library Association award for Design Excellence in post-secondary library design.
Joanne was inducted into the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) College of Fellows in 2004. She is a LEED Accredited Professional, OBC Certified, and an active member of the Ontario Association of Architects.
