Description
The new Clinical Learning Centre is located on the lower level of the existing McMaster University Medical Centre. The concept of providing practical clinical learning to students is based on the teaching principle of providing state-of-the-art facilities with appropriate hands-on simulated teaching methods to promote and enhance learning opportunities. In this creative and interactive environment, medical students are taught patient support and examination skills in actual patient environments.
The exam rooms are designed to support various scenarios including a standard physician office exam room, a gynecological exam room, and general hospital rooms. Each room is visually monitored to allow for testing of students.
The design concept for the renovation was based on a revised circulation system that allowed natural light to penetrate into the interior spaces from an adjacent courtyard, utilization of light, colour and materials to deinstitutionalize the appearance of the Centre, and the introduction of some significant pieces of art into the overall design concept.
