Description
There was a demand at the Hamilton General Hospital for additional space for the Research Department Finance Group and the Clinical Research Group. The space the hospital acquired for housing these offices was an existing 8,000 sq. ft. wing of the hospital which contained outdated offices as well as general storage. The space was very restrictive as the ceiling heights were very low, there were many floor height changes, and also there were large mechanical units which filled entire windows and had large ducts moving up the interior walls and into the ceiling.
MSA developed a solution to fit within the budget which includes new less-visible mechanical units mounted on the roof, as well as providing bulkheads and white painted ceiling mechanical ducts and devices. Since the space had many interior offices without windows and low ceiling heights, MSA provided a custom clerestory window design in order to help bring light throughout the space and create a feeling of higher ceilings. Our floor plan makes use of barrier-free design and have incorporated ramps within the office space to allow unobstructed access between the various floor heights.
